HSE Allowances for wigs
ALLOWANCES VARY ... from €440 - €767 per year.
Wigs Medical are HSE registered and authorised to supply wigs to people's from Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford , Carlow, Clonmel , Tipperary, Dublin and the rest of Ireland. |
The HSE give a yearly allowance:
- Waterford €440 - Kilkenny €440 - Wexford €440 - Carlow €440 - Tipperary €500 - Cork €450 - Clare €500 - Wicklow €650 - Naas area €767 -Dublin €635 - €700 |
You will need:
1. A valid medical card number and expirey date
2. You will need to bring a letter from your consultant or doctor - stating you are experiencing hair loss for medical reasons and so require a wig. This letter must be written on headed paper and signed by the medical professional.
Bring the above to your appointment with Bernie , she will then apply to the correct HSE area on your behalf to claim the allowance making it as easy as possible for you.
DISCRETIONARY MEDICAL CARDS are available to people who do not pass the means test criteria for a card.
These cards are issued for the duration of cancer treatment only, to help with the extra financial burdens
associated with cancer treatment. It is well worth applying for this Discretionary Medical Card.
The Irish Cancer Society fought for this allowance and so is the best place to contact about
it as these cards are not widely advertised. Tel: 1800 200 700

PRIVATE HEALTH Insurers Allowances for wigs
- You can claim for the cost of your wig through your private health insurance.
- The amount received will depend on you particular policy or plan. Please phone your private health insurer for details.
- As at January 2018 - always check with your private health provider
- VHI - no excess on wigs from next policy renewal date .
- Irish Life Health (formerly Aviva and Glo) - 50% cover, no excess
- Laya - full cost covered for one wig

If you do not have any of the above you can claim on a MED1 application form, which can be obtained from your local tax office or downloaded at www.revenue.ie
