Breast Cancer STORY FROM DEISE BUDDIES IN WATERFORD

Just read this story from this amazing woman in @waterford  Adrienne Murphy, one of the founding members of Deise Buddies in Waterford. She is so brave to tell her story to raise awareness about #breastcancer  and how early detection is vital. 

​Deise Buddies
​ "My name is Adrienne Murphy. I am 54 and I
was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the end of December 2003. I didn't find a lump, I was just feeling a bit "off" and I wasn't quite sure why. I did think it might be that I was about to turn 40 and as I was having some "tummy trouble" I decided to make an apt for an "M O T". My GP referred me on to a consultant for tests. Around this time I did notice a bit of a heaviness in my left breast so I decided to mention this to my consultant. I'm very glad I did as he sent me for an ultrasound and biopsy which showed I had a grade 2 tumour that had spread to my lymph nodes. I needed treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.
I was doing yoga around this time and I definitely feel that helped me to recognise with awareness that something wasn't quite right.
I firmly believe that we all need to ‘listen to our bodies’, in doing so we get to know what's normal for us. Every and all bodies are different so it is very important for us to know what is normal for us! By knowing our normal, we can recognise what isn't normal or appears different so we can get it checked out. 
I am delighted to be a part of this wonderful group, Déise Buddies, as we support each other through our journeys and having FUN as we do so especially with some of our activities; walking, dragon boating, aqua aerobics, yoga and many more.
